Three and a half months. That's how long it has been since John Edwards suspended his bid for the White House. Every day since speculation has abounded on both sides over who, and if, the former senator would endorse. What to take from tonight is not just that Senator Edwards has finally come out for the presumptive nominee, but the timing therein.
The timing on this whole "Screw Em" thing seems poetic justice at its best, but before Obama supporters go and start flaring this one up, I'd like to look at the two in perspective.
As an Obama supporter (please keep reading, this isn't an attack), I have had a difficult time understanding the media bias argument. I have always thought that if their positions were switched, Obama would have been laughed out of the race long ago by every news outlet. I feel that when SNL first chimed up, the greater media started bending over backward to call themselves biased, and I feel that MSNBC suspending a great reporter over a minor gaffe was ridiculous. Having said that, I have rethought the media bias argument...
I've observed this and other notable liberal blogs for a while now and have seen a distinct trend. The tone of the conversation has gone from one about issues and predictions to one about Obama supporters arguing with Clinton supporters and vice versa.
Regardless of the original topic, a bickering contest ensues. I'm not scolding, I just want to see how much ire is really behind each side's arguments.
What needs to be explored is the level which bitter losers (whichever side this may end up) will refuse to vote for the winning candidate.
Will either, neither, or only one be able to capture the other's current support in a general? I have my own opinion but I really want to see how you, the arguing blogosphere, feels.
